Rally is extremely accessible to these clients, meeting their immediate needs by providing hot nutritious food and company in a safe and supportive environment. However Rally is designed to act as a gateway project, helping clients to access other services that can address the root cause of their homelessness. This is achieved by the provision of trained volunteer mentors on-site at the food service, who develop relationships with clients, help them identify their next steps and then work with them long-term as they take those steps. This model has proved exceptionally effective and seen clients make positive lifestyle changes after years of entrenched homelessness. Mentors are trained and supported under 58i's Aspire Mentoring project.
The Rally project, run in partnership with a number of Nottingham churches, operates four evenings a week. Each evening around 50-60 people are served, and according to Nottinghamshire Police the project uniquely engages some of the city’s hardest to reach drug users. More than 120 volunteers are involved in delivering the project. |
