Page 1 of 3 The King's Village Project runs a medical and child nutrition centre, providing the first doctor among 160,000 local people. Last year alone, more than 8,000 people attended the centre. They came from 120 different communities, travelling up to 70km to access the medical help. As well as employing the only doctor in the district, the centre employs nurses, has its own pharmacy and laboratory. Health promotion work is undertaken within the community and special clinics are regularly held offering, for example, emergency dental care. Through a unique child health sponsorship scheme, the cost of signing up tens of thousands of children into the Ghanaian Government's National Health Insurance Scheme is covered through donations from UK supporters. It means the children, who are the most vulnerable to sickness and disease, can access entirely free healthcare. An adjacent child nutritional centre provides care and support to malnourished children and their families. Workshops are held in communities in the district helping to educate parents on how to provide the right nutrition for their children. |
