58i is a fast growing charity, established by a group of Christians in 2005 committed to seeing the church touch the lives of the most marginalised in society. Bringing with them experience of both international and local community development, the team sought to establish a charity that sought justice for those with whom it works; was run professionally and delivered lasting and sustainable change as it tackled the root causes of poverty. Today we work with more than 250 volunteers, run or partner in 10 projects and serve many hundreds of people every week. We work across all sections of society and are established in a way that allows us to respond to emerging needs anywhere in the world. Whilst our UK-based projects are currently focussed primarily in Nottingham, and our international development work primarily in Northern Ghana, we hope to take the successful project models we have developed to other locations in the future. The name ‘58i' comes from the book of Isaiah, chapter 58 in the Old Testament where God says true faith is to be found in loosening the chains of injustice, sharing food with the hungry and providing shelter for the homeless. |
